Joss The Seven by J. Philip Hornes, what can I say, yes it's another Dystopian setting, yes it's another fantasy, yes it has action and adventure, but it's a middle grade level novel that does stand up--stand up to be talked about. Here now is Joss The Seven and what I believe to be, to have read, this is what I have to say...

Joss The Seven has won my mind, my imagination, my curiosity. I would often say I would like to read the next book to find out more, say I’m curious, but never have I said that a book deserves rightfully another Sequel till now and if I have, it has yet to be forever this genre.

Why? Well that’s a fair question—

A 14 year old prankster is about to have his world changed—who knew though that his unique talents would help him in saving his family. With magical powers, superhero like, he must fight something he hasn’t even trained for and never heard of. A lot like Percy Jackson in a way, young kids, not perfect who discovers something about ones self that is different. For Joss he discovers that he is different, that he has a gift. The difference is the setting, the storyline, and no mythology. Though when you read it you’ll see the similarities there, you will see similarities in technique knowing how to take the reader on the adventure without giving away to much of the story, leaving a cliff hanger and wanting more.

What is also nice about Joss The Seven, it’s a character you can admire and look up to. It’s Dystopian setting story that instead of being just a dark storyline it has a mixture with a realistic aspects to the characters. As we are taken on the journey Joss must take, you see how hard it is to trust, how hard it is learning to trust. We see the lengths he goes through learning about strength and morality and learning about revenge. Learning how one can easily take revenge on one who does you wrong but taking the high ground shows strength and wisdom. I do have to say with the plot twist, the narrative, the clearly written storyline and not overly describing the setting or its characters, it allows the reader to discover new information along with each individual character.

As the reader follows the plot, as it unfolds, the reader can discover new information about each of the charachters and others and their enemies along the way. The reader gets to discover new things along with the protagonist and the other characters that is brought forth. The reader is allowed to discover new things with the characters and that I enjoyed.

It’s a book I have to say I enjoyed. A book I enjoyed the form, the layout, the writing. I compared it to Percy Jackson, but stands as in this genre quite original take, with vision and insight. If there will be a sequel, as I hope there will be, I will be right there to read it.
