What I enjoyed first and foremost was that author Kevin Gerard did not just take a story (as is commonly being done with comics) and developed a complete and new character with a original story and background. As a fan of books, reading, what I first and foremost enjoy is when the author does not reiterate what has been told before, change mythology to fit what people wish it could be....I find characters to be more profound when they have their own origin story, their own villains and jerks instead of changing one. Author Kevin Gerard did just that. It does not have to be a comic for the same concept to apply. He gave young Diego, a young Hispanic boy his own original tale with adventure, mythological creatures and more...one that all can enjoy.
What I I like also is the author took it one step further not only do you get to enjoy this fantastical tale, but you are also getting to learn while reading without it realizing because the authors uses Spanish words through out but don't fret there is a glossary at the end with the Spanish to English version.
Now let's talk more about the story......
Diego's Dragon, Book Two: Dragons of the Dark Rift is an excellent book but like any book you do want to make sure to read the first so you know how events leading into the second book unfold. Book two is set to a year later and he hasn't seen is protege for thievery same length of time 1year. Even though Diego may have not seen Magnifico for 1 whole year does not mean he want thinking about him and learning how to properly work with his dragon once reunited. Diego learns how to work defensively and offensively with his dragon for that comes to head In battle that was brewing because of someone quite evil.
Sarandon and the dragons that fight at his side are up to no good and Diego, his friends, and colleagues are doing everything in their power are trying to stop as well as from keeping him from accomplishing his plans to stop the entry of the 5th sun into the Galaxy. To help guarantee peace cannot be brought Satadon will stop nothing to make sure the galaxy does not enter, for if it does not only will peace come but also enlightenment.

As a battle wages on its safe to say that a predicitibable cut in dry battle is not going to happen but they cannot let Satadon win or destruction will occur. Find the victor when you read Dragons of The Dark Rift.

When not writing or teaching statistics at Cal State San Marcos, he enjoys walking the grounds at the San Diego Zoo, hitting the waves at Cardiff State Beach, and hanging with his brother, nieces and nephews at the local Pizza Port. He also enjoys playing Halo on the internet; look for him in the rocket games as one of the characters from Diego’s Dragon or Conor and the Crossworlds.
