Ever After High;A Wonderlandiful Adventure by Shannon Hale is as the title Wonderlandifully puts it. The story you go on is a Wonderlandiful Adventure. For those who have not followed the Ever After High Series, you may be just discovering the unique and fun twist on classic fairly tales and rhymes like Humpty Dumpty, had a passing glance in a book store and it caught your attention, maybe seen it before or this new discovery may just may make you wonder how a bunch of fairy tales can come together.......Well I would be lying if I tell I was positive when I picked up the first book that it would be good, what caught me was the cover, I honestly was unsure about the story itself though but I picked it up and gave it a shot.
I have to say I was quite SURPRISED when I read the first book, Ever After High; Storybook Legends. I was surprised on how they were able to bring all these characters together from fables, rhymes, Fairytales, and ahem.... A story around where their children "relive their parents story" as history is repeating itself.
With a basic idea of how the books are formatted the storybook legends "fairytale children" are separated into rebels and royals because "rebels" want to choose their own destiny "royals" want to follow their story. From leaving book two, we enter the review of book 3, Ever After High;A Wonderlandiful Adventure. I was excited for the new plot twist of "Wonderland" or something "wonderland like" weaved into the stories plot with more focus on four Wonderlandian characters......and much more in book 3. We get more insight into Maddie Hatter (Madd Hatters Daughter), kitty Chechisre (of course daughter of the Chechisire Cat), Cedar Wood (Think Pinocchio!), and last but not least.............Lizzie Hearts ( daughter of the Oh-So-Wonderlandiful, Queen Of Hearts).
In book 3 of Ever After High; A Wonderlandiful Adventure, wonderland or something Wonderlandiful "like" comes to Ever After High thanks to a wonderland creature.....Jabberwakee. Nothing is the same in Ever After High, the narrator is speaking in "Wonderlandian" and Maddie Hatter becomes a step in narrator? The actual narrator acts as the Maddie Hatter we know a wonderlandian. Unfortunately what would seem like a good idea, conflict arising and and the only few wonderland characters can fix with the varpol sword turned south. I understand there is supposed to be a sense of confusion but
all seemed all over the place, incomplete. The story felt flat where there was a lot of potential. It started off quite good but fell apart towards the middle end, it lost focus, depth, the story fell flat it did pick up towards the end. The story had potential but I think the author for lost in trying to make it wild and whimsical.
